My Morning Skincare Routine- Spring 2016
Over the years my skin has changed quite a bit. As a teen I had rather serious acne but as I've grown into my 20's my skin has become incredibly prone to dryness. While my overall skin type is fairly consistent my skin needs still change with the seasons. Like most people the change in temperature and humidity can my skin to panic. This usually means it's time to change up the products I am using or rather how I am using them.
To combat my dryness this winter I eliminated washing my face with a cleanser from my morning routine. To many with oily or acne prone skin this may seem like a complete no-no. But I have found that using cleansers in the morning was unnecessary and actually stripped my skin of much needed oils*. Unless I was feeling particularly oily I would just splash my face with some water. However, as summer approaches I have added a gentle cleanser into my routine.
In the morning I have been using Mario Badescu's Orange Cleansing Soap to wash my face. It gets rid of the excess oil without having a drying effect on my skin. I like that it's a lathering formula because it gives you that nice clean feeling. Plus the smell of citrus helps to wake me up in the morning, which makes this product all the better. However, it doesn't do a great job of removing makeup. I recommend using this in the morning when you don't have any makeup to remove. Or you can use it as a follow up to your makeup remover in the evening.
After I cleanse my face with my Orange Cleansing Soap I pat my face dry with a clean towel or wash cloth. Then I use this Derma E Hydrating Day Crème to put moisture back into my skin. This is formulated with hyaluronic acid to lock in moisture. It's great for dry skin types but it doesn't leave a greasy film on your skin after you apply it. It absorbs into my skin quickly which means I don't have to wait too long to apply my makeup.
After I apply my overall moisturizer I use this Mario Badescu Ceramide Eye Gel to hydrate my eye area. I apply it by gently patting it around my eye area with my ring finger. This ensures a gentle application. The skin around your eyes is incredibly delicate. Rubbing eye cream into your skin can speed up the development of fine lines around your eyes and cause dark circles. This is a product I have been trying out recently and to be honest it's not my favorite formula. While it does a great job of hydrating my under eye area it doesn't absorb quickly into my skin by any means. I think this has to do with it being a gel formula. In the past I have tried the Mario Badescu Ceramide Herbal Eye Cream (which I love) and had never had a problem with absorption.
The newest addition to my routine is Benefit's Specialist Dream Screen. It's a 45 SPF sunscreen that dries matte which allows for a smoother makeup application. While I would like to say that I have always worn sunscreen everyday, I am relatively new to the ballgame. I know, I know sunscreen is incredibly important! No more sunburns! It prevents skin cancer! It keeps your skin from aging! And all of that is true. Which is why I have started to wear it everyday. What kept me from wearing sunscreen in the past was that I could never find a sunscreen that was truly non-oily. Because of this I only wore it when I was going to be outside for long periods of time. This however has been my saving grace. It applies beautifully, dries relatively quickly and most importantly dries matte!
On my body I have been using this Nubian Heritage Goat's Milk and Chai Body Lotion. I picked it up from Whole Foods and have been loving it! It's a thick formula which can be difficult to rub in but it smells wonderful and leaves my skin feeling luxurious. And that's all! I like to keep my routines relatively simple in the morning. This girl likes to sleep!

* While I recommend not washing your face in the morning make sure you remove all of your makeup and wash your face in the evening! Going to bed with makeup on can clog your pores.
